3D Printing

We can provide the expertise to optimize and print a digital model into a physical object that the client can hold in their hand. Our fascination with the world of miniaturization, the simulation of the built environment, continues to fascinate our interest improving these wonderful services..

3D printing is a very exciting part of new complimentary services. 3D printing is method by which we can take a 3D model and create a physical prototype. Res3D is the right choice to provide you with these models, because we are already a full service office that has the experience in many types of model building methods. We have extensive experience in polygon mesh, BIM (Building Information Modeling), solid, NURBS (Non Uniform Rational B-Splines) and Procedural modeling.

A lot of times you are hiring Res3D for the renderings, and in that case we can make the 3D printing it very cost effective. We can plan ahead and build the model so it will work as a render and holdup as a 3D print.

Even if you do your own modeling and renderings, we can provide you with the support to optimize you models, and can provide the 3D print service.

Our 3D Print method uses a material that is very cost effective and is appropriate for iteration design development models as well as final models. The printer allows us to print in many combinations of color, which is a part of the printing process and not added in post.

The materials are robust and can withstand handling over time. There is no need to be overly delicate. The method of printing layer by layer also allows for internal hallows and moving parts within a component.

We also have available other methods of 3D printing that uses an ABS plastic materials, but this method is more suitable for smaller consumer parts, due to the cost of the materials and that it only allows us to print in one color.

How it works

  • Client provides us with the model.
  • We optimize the model so it makes the best use of material and close gaps in the geometry, and to assure the appropriate thickness are being used.
  • Add texture to model to simulate various cladding or materials surfaces.
  • Run various model checks to assure that the model will print.
  • Asses out the overall material use.
  • Print model, usually model printing is overnight.
  • Prepare model for post cleanup.
  • Ship model to client.

File Format

What formats we work with. We can work with just about any format, but in-house we are mostly using 3ds MAX, Blender, SolidWorks and Google’s Sketchup.
We can also accept models from BIM software such as Autodesks Revit or solid files from ACAD. If you are using other types of software such as Pro Engineer or Inventor, there are many export options that are acceptable.
Acceptable formats include and are not limited to the following: VRML, STL, 3DS. Some formats work better than others and are able to maintain color and material information.
