3D Visualization

Film Industry

Based on our extensive experience in the architectural visualization field, we have developed the expertise to create realistic environments, backdrops, landscapes, and virtual sets that are made to match the art director’s design and pre-visualization concepts.

Exterior rendering of proposed development for a low income housing project in Anchorage Alaska.

When building a set proves to be expensive, background replacement using digital content becomes an alternative. The director can then shoot the talent on a green or blue screen, and in postproduction, the compositor can then combine the actors into the rendered models, built by res3D, creating a seamless integrated shot.

With some pre-shoot planning of setting up tracking points, we can, with the help of camera tracking software, match the cinematographers outdoor footage, and studio green screen live action plate to a 3D camera.

The software tracks the points we prepared in the pre-shoot, and tracks defined geometry in the scene, and then triangulates the virtual camera; the data cloud and camera can then be imported into the 3D modeling software, so the camera movement in the model will match the camera movement of the live shot.

As part of our comprehensive modeling services we offer on site IBL (Images Based Lighting) setups, also know as 360 spherical HDR (High Dynamic Range Photography), for outdoor model lighting that will match your background plate.

Architects, Engineers

Res3D’s principal has been working within the A&E (Architectural and Engineering) sector since 1997 and in Anchorage since it started business in 2005.

We have the experience and the art training to assure the architects model, will be created in the most realistic way that will match the budget.

We work with developers and builders on proposals to help them present new concepts to clients, and compliment bid packages for design build teams. We concentrate on the details, because we believe that if the image is accurate,

it will compel and it will elicit an emotional response. The model will appeal to people’s natural fascination with simulation, and our innate interest in miniaturization.

We have assisted designers with visualizations around the world. We have worked for leading product designers like Karim Rashid Industrial Design of New York on his nhow hotel design in Berlin Germany.

We are flexible with our hours of operation and at the clients request can assign a project manager that will work at a time that is complimentary to our clients time zone.

Rendering for Arquitectonica Miami

Being based in Alaska we have worked extensively with local A&E firms helping them present their concepts to clients, and giving them an extra edge in RFP submittals.

Product Designers

Renderings for inventors and product designers. Process modeling for research and development of new ideas.

Inventors and product designers use our services to create illustrations of product concepts and new designs. These illustrations are used for setting up venture, preparing marketing materials

Being able to provide possible investors with realistic images of the concept goes a long way to securing funding and bringing on board a valuable equity partner to your project.

Our approach is to sit down with the inventor / developer, understand their idea for the product and help them with the illustrating process. With our background in product design we know the questions to ask. You are still in the drivers seat, and still do all the design work, we help with the visual representation of the idea.

Product rendering for client

We can assist with the design process, providing quick modeling using software like Googles SketchUp. The software allows us to quickly block out components so parts can be arranged. It this project the client wanted to design an iridium modem enclosure. There were various parts that would go into the enclosure that had to be taken into account. Each part was sized and placed accordingly so the overall design can take shape, or its form could follow its functions.

The client also needed marketing renderings to show prospective clients how the temperature cable would work. With an illustration we were able to model the product accurately and were able to show the product in context within the PVC tube, and with the earth cutaway.

3D Printing

We can provide the expertise to optimize and print a digital model into a physical object that the client can hold in their hand. Our fascination with the world of miniaturization, the simulation of the built environment, continues to fascinate our interest improving these wonderful services..

3D printing is a very exciting part of new complimentary services. 3D printing is method by which we can take a 3D model and create a physical prototype. Res3D is the right choice to provide you with these models, because we are already a full service office that has the experience in many types of model building methods. We have extensive experience in polygon mesh, BIM (Building Information Modeling), solid, NURBS (Non Uniform Rational B-Splines) and Procedural modeling.

A lot of times you are hiring Res3D for the renderings, and in that case we can make the 3D printing it very cost effective. We can plan ahead and build the model so it will work as a render and holdup as a 3D print.

Even if you do your own modeling and renderings, we can provide you with the support to optimize you models, and can provide the 3D print service.

Our 3D Print method uses a material that is very cost effective and is appropriate for iteration design development models as well as final models. The printer allows us to print in many combinations of color, which is a part of the printing process and not added in post.

The materials are robust and can withstand handling over time. There is no need to be overly delicate. The method of printing layer by layer also allows for internal hallows and moving parts within a component.

We also have available other methods of 3D printing that uses an ABS plastic materials, but this method is more suitable for smaller consumer parts, due to the cost of the materials and that it only allows us to print in one color.

How it works

  • Client provides us with the model.
  • We optimize the model so it makes the best use of material and close gaps in the geometry, and to assure the appropriate thickness are being used.
  • Add texture to model to simulate various cladding or materials surfaces.
  • Run various model checks to assure that the model will print.
  • Asses out the overall material use.
  • Print model, usually model printing is overnight.
  • Prepare model for post cleanup.
  • Ship model to client.

File Format

What formats we work with. We can work with just about any format, but in-house we are mostly using 3ds MAX, Blender, SolidWorks and Google’s Sketchup.
We can also accept models from BIM software such as Autodesks Revit or solid files from ACAD. If you are using other types of software such as Pro Engineer or Inventor, there are many export options that are acceptable.
Acceptable formats include and are not limited to the following: VRML, STL, 3DS. Some formats work better than others and are able to maintain color and material information.

Product Documentation

We provide documentation services for the engineering community using 3D CAD software such as Dassaults SolidWorks. Being able to model in solidworks and create the documentation set greatly benefits the client.

These projection drawings are taken from a 3D model. Being to pull the drawings from one models assures that all faccets of the drawings are correct. Other benefits to this method of documentation are detail call-outs that always match up, parts list and the ability to show axonometric and perspective views of the model.
